When It's Time to Replace the Roof, Call Cross Plains Roofing & Construction

Cross Plains Roofing & Construction will build a long-lasting, attractive roof that fits your style.

The most common kind of roof in the United States is the asphalt shingle roof; it should last about 20 to 50 years, with longevity impaired by extreme weather such as wide temperature swings, heavy winds, lots of rain, and tornadoes. It can't be just us who say, "Hello, Tennessee" when we read that description. If your roof is no longer protecting your home, call Cross Plains Roofing & Construction at (615) 337-9823.

  • Full inspection: we check the attic, gutters, chimney flashing, tiles the entire roofing system

The Life and Times of a Roof

While the average house in North America should last about 100 years, the average roof lasts anywhere from 20 to 50 years. This wide variation arises from factors under the original builder's control (such as the quality of the work and the materials) and factors that are not, including:

  • Owner care (such as cleaning the gutters, sealants for wood)
  • The weather
    • Temperatures over 80 degrees F
    • Temperatures under 30 degrees F
    • Frequent rain
    • Hail or snow
    • Heavy winds, including straight-line winds, tornadoes, microbursts, and derechoes

Unless you are brand new to Tennessee, you recognize the state in the above weather description. Heck, the description fits April.

Our Cross Plains Roofing & Construction roofing professionals are highly skilled, but we like others have no control over the weather. What we can and do control, however, is the quality of our materials and of our work.

When we do an inspection, we show you what we do as well as the results of the inspection. We'll let you know what your home needs and why; we'll go through the full range of options for gutters, roof materials, and styles/colors.

Signs of Roof Damage

Checking for signs of damage is like a health check for your home. Catch the problem(s) early, and you can prevent major and costly problems.

  • Cracked or curled shingles are at the end of their usefulness
  • Roof leaks may be a result of something fairly simple such as cracked chimney flashing, but they may also be a result of missing tiles or cracks in the roof
  • Stains can be on the outside (mold or other kinds of microbial growth) or on the ceilings from water or debris
  • Dirty streaks on the roof may be from debris, microbial growth, or water damage
  • Blistered/peeling paint is often a result of sun or water damage
  • Change in energy costs

We encourage you to look in your attic for:

  • Missing or flaking insulation if you bring chunks of insulation from the attic with you on your clothes or in your hair, then the roof has suffered from weather damage -- or the insulation was not installed correctly, in which case there is still a problem
  • Leaks on the walls or beams
  • Cat eyes oval areas on the wood formed by wood sap and amber they're signs that the temperature in your attic has been over 104 degrees for sustained periods

If you notice a problem, give us a call at (615) 337-9823.
